Matchreport NLC May 8, 2016: RFC St. Gallen - GC 20-65

Zürich travelled the short trip to St. Gallen to play a Sunday away game, with dry and warm conditions for the match.

The Zurich team knew a win would take them top of the league but St. Gallen had other intentions playing strong defensive rugby with good attacks throughout.

The well organised travelling Zürich, showed patience and discipline to score 9 tries during the 80 minutes. Lawrence Visser, Nico Sharenac and Lukas Fopma all scored one try, and Sacha Knox-Bruessow, Yannick Liechti and Louis Reyes got themselves two tries each.

Liechti also had a good day with the boot, converting 7 of the 9 tries, and knocking over 2 penalty kicks. This took his personal points tally for the match to 30 (2 tries, 7 conversions, 2 penalties!).

The final score: St. Gallen  20 – 65 GC Zürich 2nds

This was another great display from the developing Zürich 2nds side, with tries coming from both backs and forwards, and much open rugby being played.

Special mention to Sacha Knox-Bruessow playing his first game for Zürich 2nds and grabbing himself 2 tries on his debut.

Zürich now focus on welcoming Basel FT to Allmend Brunau on the 22nd May, and will look to maintain their top of the league position.
